A University of Iowa student who was charged with having a fake ID  making her appear to be of legal drinking age was later arrested for OWI after trying to pick up someone from the Johnson County Jail.

According to police, 19-year-old Kaylee Osterhaus of Manchester was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic offense on Byington Road just after 1:20 am Wednesday. She was released from the scene by the officer when she allegedly approached the officer uninvited to show her student ID to him so that he knew she belonged in the dormitory she was going to enter. However, the arrest report indicates that in Osterhaus’ other hand was a fictitious Minnesota driver’s license with her name and likeness but an altered birthdate making her appear to be of legal drinking age.

She was charged with Possession of a Fictitious ID, a serious misdemeanor.

At 2:50 am, Iowa City police officers were informed that Osterhaus arrived at the Johnson County Jail to pick up an individual but was turned down because she was intoxicated. She left, but returned with another individual to have them pick up the person at the jail.

Officers observed her in the driver’s seat, with bloodshot watery eyes and the odor of ingested alcohol. Osterhaus reportedly admitted to drinking, and after showing impairment on field tests provided a Datamaster test with a blood-alcohol level of .132 percent.

Osterhaus was charged with her first OWI, also a serious misdemeanor.
