Summer of the Arts has announced the lineup for the 2022 Iowa City Jazz Festival, which is returning to downtown Iowa City for its 31st run.
The free festival begins Friday, July 1st, and concludes Sunday, July 3rd on the Ped Mall and on South Clinton Street.
The highlights include two-time GRAMMY winner Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience Friday, July 1st at 8 PM on the Ped Mall stage.
Continuing a Jazz Festival tradition of showcasing student performers on the main stage, Saturday opens at 11:30am with the United Jazz Ensemble, which has opened the festival for more than 20 years. The group is a collective of students from City High, West High, and Liberty High. The student focus continues at 12:15 with the North Corridor All-Stars, a similar ensemble comprised of students from I-380’s northern region, from Cedar Rapids all the way to Cedar Falls. That night’s headliner is the critically-acclaimed SuperBlue, with Kurt Elling and Charlie Hunter, at 8 PM.
Saturday finishes with the City of Iowa City’s fireworks at 9:30 PM.
Closing out the festival at 3 PM Sunday are multi-GRAMMY Award winners John Daversa with Tal Cohen. A second stage throughout the festival will feature some of the Corridor’s top area musicians.
