Cedar Rapids teen accused of killing parents moved to adult facility on 18th birthday

The Cedar Rapids teenager accused of killing both his parents celebrated his 18th birthday Sunday by being moved to an adult correctional facility.

KCRG TV reports that Ethan Alexander Orton was listed as being booked at the Linn County Jail on Sunday. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being held on a $2 million cash bond.

The criminal complaint indicates that after getting a 911 call around 2am October 14th 2021 for suspicious noises coming from the home, the teenaged Orton was allegedly found outside the residence covered in blood. He reportedly told officers he had stabbed both his parents, 41-year-old Misty Scott-Slade and 42-year-old Casey Orton, and used an ax on his mother when he found she was still alive.

Orton has pleaded not guilty to the charges and his trial is delayed to October 18th of this year.
