A Cedar Rapids woman has been arrested after Iowa City Police say she failed to return an automobile to a car rental agency.
37-year-old Amelia Halverson of Kirkwood Boulevard SW was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 12:15 Friday afternoon. Arrest records indicate Halverson rented a car from Budget Car Rental on Stevens Drive last June. The vehicle was never returned, and police say Halverson eventually stopped responding to requests to bring it back. She also allegedly cancelled the credit card used to rent the car.
The vehicle is valued at $23,500.
Halverson is charged with 1st Degree Theft. If convicted, she faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
