Washington County firefighters had a busy St. Patrick’s Day, responding to three different grass fires caused by the unusually dry weather.

According to Washington County dispatch records, the Washington Fire Department was dispatched to a field and tree fire at Spruce Avenue and 230th Street at 6:10 Thursday morning. Just after 1:30pm, Wellman and North English firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire at 325th Street and TT Avenue. Columbus Junction firefighters requested mutual aid just after 5:15pm for a grass fire on W Avenue in Louisa County. Ainsworth firefighters were sent to assist.

All of the fires were extinguished without incident or injury.

Dry and windy conditions had meteorologists warning of the potential for grass fires on Thursday. Friday’s rains put an end to that threat.
