A North Liberty man faces charges that he broke into the Old Capitol and stole a book, later telling police he wanted to be a “badass”.

34-year-old Andrew Olson of Green Meadow Court was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 11:45 Friday morning. University of Iowa Police say Olson used his shoulder to force open an exterior door on the Old Capitol just after 3:30am on February 15th. He then allegedly took a book from a display with the intent of stealing it.

Olson later reportedly told police he broke into the building to be a “badass”, and that he would have kept the book if he had not been caught.

Olson is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, a Class D felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
