The Iowa City Police Department is reporting another surge in vehicle burglaries, mostly occurring in city parks.

The Gazette reports that some of the break-ins involved smashed windows, but in many cases the car doors had been left unlocked.

Authorities are urging residents to keep vehicles locked at all times, and make sure that valuables like purses, phones, laptops, wallets and the like are stored out of sight to passersby.

The city had a similar surge in vehicle burglaries at the end of January; a gun was stolen out of a car in one of those incidents. Police say there have been no guns stolen in this recent string of burglaries.

No arrests have been made.
