Iowa City Police say they’ve charged a Coralville woman with drunk driving after she was travelling downtown without a shirt early Sunday morning.
Officers say they noticed a 2009 Ford Flex driving with a headlight out just before 1am. An ICPD officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop at Dubuque Street and Iowa Avenue, but the SUV reportedly sped up and failed to stop for a stop sign as it turned right onto Washington Street before finally pulling over.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Kenneisha Hawkins of the Western Hill Estates manufactured housing community, allegedly told the officer that she was looking for her ID that she had just lost and had consumed one beer about 90 minutes earlier.
The arresting officer claims Hawkins showed signs of intoxication, had a bar band on her wrist, and was wearing a bra with no shirt. Hawkins allegedly initially refused field sobriety and breath testing, but eventually consented to a breathalyzer test. Police say Hawkins could not properly blow into the device to properly register a breath alcohol level after several attempts.
A later Datamaster test showed Hawkins’ blood alcohol level as .110%. She was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
