An Iowa City man is accused of being high on heroin while his four-year-old child roamed the halls of a Coralville hotel.

Coralville Police say 32-year-old Xavier Wells of the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community was found unconscious in a hotel room bathroom at the Radisson on Hayden Fry Way just after 11:15 Saturday night.  His four-year-old child was reportedly left unattended, wandering the halls of the hotel for approximately five hours.

Needles and a substance believed to be heroin were found near Wells, and he allegedly tried to hide the items from police. Investigators say he told them he’d passed out and had lost track of the child and the child’s mother.

Wells is charged with Child Endangerment. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
