University of Iowa Police say a man vandalized a pair of vehicles during a meth-fueled rage.

Witnesses reported seeing 43-year-old Paul Hagerman of South Dubuque Street destroying a vehicle and shattering its windows with a fire extinguisher inside the Iowa Memorial Union parking ramp just after 4:45 Saturday afternoon. Hagerman then allegedly fled the scene. He was located near the corner of Riverside Drive and Iowa Avenue a short time later. Police identified him by his clothing and by a tattoo of a cross.

Hagerman was returned to the IMU ramp, where he was positively identified by the witnesses. Police say Hagerman admitted to consuming crystal meth and ADH medication. He was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics due to the large amount of meth he had reportedly consumed.  Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $1,250.

Iowa City Police had been looking for Hagerman after he allegedly used a brick and a golf club to break out the back window of a 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander parked near the corner of Clinton and Market Streets less than an hour before the IMU ramp vandalism. Blood found on the golf club has been sent to a DCI lab for testing to see if it matches the blood found on Hagerman’s arms.

Hagerman was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 1:45 Tuesday afternoon and charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief, 4th Degree Criminal Mischief and 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
