An Iowa City man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for his role in the botched robbery that resulted in the 2020 murder of a man in his Broadway Street apartment.
24-year-old Durojaiye Rosa reached a plea agreement last year which found him guilty of voluntary manslaughter, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary. He also testified against 46-year-old Reginald Little in the trial that found Little guilty of first-degree murder of Kejuan Winters.
According to Rosa’s testimony, he and Little hadn’t planned to kill Winters, but during the botched robbery attempt, a struggle ensued and Little shot him.
Investigators presented evidence Little was communicating with Rosa about entering Winters’ apartment moments before shots were fired.
Another participant, 34-year-old Patrick Bland, is serving a 60 year sentence for his role in Winters’ death.
The Gazette reports Rosa must serve at least 17-and-a-half years of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
