A Coralville man faces several charges after allegedly threatening the life of a resident in his apartment building.
Police say the incident occurred the evening of February 25th at the Holiday Road building where the suspect, 20-year-old Keith Brown, entered the apartment of the victim. The man said previously that Brown was mad at him for talking about his “financial business” and that he threatened earlier via text message that he wanted to fight the man.
Brown allegedly went into the victim’s apartment and immediately went to the living room where the man was located. Brown then reportedly pulled a handgun out of his waistband with the intent to assault the man; he pointed the handgun at the man’s face and reportedly stated “I will kill you” and “I’m gonna kill you.”
The other two tenants were scared of what might happen and were able to convince Brown to leave, but not before he allegedly grabbed a pile of cash totaling about $100 and left the apartment.
The victim described the weapon to police as a Springfield XM 9mm with an extended magazine, red laser and flashlight. The weapon was later recovered by officers and found that it had been stolen.
A warrant was issued for Brown’s arrest on February 28th; he was taken into custody Monday and faces a host of charges. They include Going Armed With Intent, Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, 1st degree Harassment, Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon, and 4th degree Theft. If convicted on all counts, Brown could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
