An Iowa City man wanted on an arrest warrant from a November incident has been taken into custody.
Police say the incident occurred on the 21st just after midnight near the intersection of Highway 6 and Boyrum Street. 24-year-old Monte Harris was stopped for an unspecified traffic violation and he was found to have multiple warrants for his arrest.
During the arrest, Harris allegedly was found with over 100 pills in his possession. They were submitted to the state crime lab, where it was determined that the pills were methamphetamine. A total of 50 grams of the drug were taken from Harris.
Once the lab completed their report, a warrant for Harris’ arrest was issued on February 3rd. He was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with a Class B Controlled Substance violation and Failure to Affix a Tax Stamp. If convicted on both counts, Harris could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.
Bond was set at a total of $5000, and Judge Deborah Minot appointed a public defender for Harris. His arraignment will be set at a later date.
