An Iowa City woman was charged with burglary after allegedly moving some of her belongings into an apartment she had no permission to be in.
Police say property management for a building on the 600 block of 4th Avenue in Coralville reported people living in a unit without permission on November 15th. They stated that there was no current lease for the unit, and no permission for anyone to be inside the apartment. A bedroom window was reportedly found broken, showing forced entry. Numerous personal belongings were allegedly found.
35-year-old Saira Jacobs of Blackfoot Trail and another unnamed suspect were using utility services that they did not pay for, and were seen on security cameras leaving the residence. Property management requested on January 21st that the alleged squatters be removed. Police say both Jacobs and the other person were present and identified when they arrived.
A warrant was issued for Jacobs’ arrest on February 21st. She was served that morning and was charged with 3rd degree Burglary, a Class D felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
Jacobs is being held at the Lee County Jail on other charges.
