Today is a special election day for the Clear Creek Amana and Mid-Prairie school districts.
At Clear Creek Amana, the issue is $65 million in general obligation bonds to build, furnish, and equip a new elementary school and upgrade existing facilities.
The bond money would be used to upgrade playground facilities at the district’s elementary schools. At the Middle School and High School level, improvements would be made to the existing facilities, including fine arts space, career and vocational space, and a new roof for the Middle School.
Bond referendums require a 60 percent supermajority “YES” vote to pass. The 2017 bond referendum, which passed by 71 percent, included the Oak Hill Elementary project along with district wide security/safety projects, parking lot expansions, and the high school addition that is currently under construction.
In Wellman, voters are being asked to approve a $26 million bond referendum for the Mid-Prairie Community School District. The proposal, which includes a property tax increase, earmarks funds for an expansion of its facilities as well. Details on the bond are available at www.2022mpbond.org.
Both districts have seen a significant population increase in the last decade.
Polls are open from 7am to 8pm. If you’re unsure where your polling place is, a link to the website that provides the information is available under this story on 1630 KCJJ dot com.
