A North Liberty man has been arrested after allegedly throwing his live-in girlfriend to the floor and preventing her from answering the door to arriving police.

According to the arrest reports, 33-year-old Jerry Gomez of North Park Ridge Road and the woman have had a lengthy intimate relationship. The victim alleges that Gomez threw her to the floor during an argument and reportedly prevented her from leaving their residence.

When officers arrived, they announced themselves and knocked for an extended period. The woman was on the phone with dispatch and would not answer the door, alleging that Gomez was stopping her from doing so until she cleaned the blood off her face.

Police say the victim had a bloody nose, and scratches to her face, neck and back.

Gomez was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense, and False Imprisonment. If convicted on both counts, he faces a prison term of up to six years.
