Barbara Wilson officially installed as UI president

Barbara Wilson has been officially installed as the new University of Iowa president.

An installation ceremony was held Friday at Hancher Auditorium.

According to The Daily Iowan, the 22nd president in the university’s history told those in attendance that she plans to prioritize student mental health and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Friday’s ceremony was part of the UI’s 175th anniversary celebration. It included musical performances and remarks by Ted Abel, director of the Iowa Neuroscience Institute and professor in the Carver College of Medicine. Abel praised Wilson’s efforts in helping secure a $70 million gift from the Richard O. Jacobson Foundation which will support a new patient care tower for the UI Hospitals & Clinics…the largest gift in school history.
