A Chicago man was charged with a Felony after an alleged assault on a female driver.
According to the police report, the incident occurred Thursday afternoon in the 800 block of South Gilbert Street. The reporting party said they saw a male passenger assaulting a female driver in a car stopped in the roadway, with the man punching the woman.
Upon arrival, a Sheriff’s deputy detained 28-year-old Jarvarise Harper, while another officer talked to the alleged victim. She said Harper got angry when she refused to pay for his bus ticket to go back to Chicago. He allegedly refused to get out at the Greyhound station, and moved the gear shift into neutral and reverse while she was in traffic.
Harper then reportedly took the keys out of the ignition while the car was still moving. The woman was able to stop the car, rolled down a window and asked someone to call 911. Harper then allegedly started pulling her hair.
The woman’s 1-year-old son was sitting in the rear driver side seat. Harper was read his rights but refused to provide a statement.
The man was taken into custody and initially charged with Child Endangerment with Serious Injury, and could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison if convicted.
