A month after University of Iowa Health Care Suresh Gunasekaran announced plans to leave at the end of February, it was announced Thursday that the UI Vice President for Medical Affairs and dean of the Carver College of Medicine is stepping down.
Brooks Jackson, who has been in the position since taking over for Jean Robillard at the end of November 2017, says he will continue to serve in the positions until a successor is found.
The UIHC is beginning a bold master plan over the next ten years, including a $395 million campus in North Liberty and a new inpatient tower on the main Iowa City campus. In a statement, Jackson said, “As UI Health Care prepares to tackle the next bold phase in its history, the time is right for new leadership to pilot the organization to the next level.”
The 68-year-old Jackson will stay at the University of Iowa to pursue research. A search for his successor is said to begin immediately.
