An Iowa City man who was apprehended in October of 2020 but failed to show up for a case management conference ahead of his trial has been taken into custody.

Members of the Johnson County Drug Task Force conducted surveillance on 23-year-old Jeremiah Dean in an effort to take him into custody on outstanding warrants. Investigators had information that Dean was in possession of narcotics and a firearm. The surveillance was conducted in Johnson County, but Dean was eventually apprehended in Linn County on October 23, 2020. When authorities secured Dean, he was in possession of a .40 caliber handgun with a “drum” magazine, and over 100 grams of marijuana. Other evidence located indicated he was involved in the sale of marijuana.

Dean’s April 2021 trial was delayed to August 10th, and a Case Management Conference was scheduled for May 7th of last year. Dean failed to show for the court date, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was located and jailed on Saturday evening.

Dean’s original warrants were domestic assault-related. He faced two counts of Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow, and one of Assault with display of a weapon. He also was charged with Carrying Weapons and a Controlled Substance violation when arrested in October 2020. If convicted on all counts currently against him, Dean faces a prison term of up to 13 years.
