Cedar Rapids Police have charged a suspect with the murder of a 15-year-old girl last year.
According to a CRPD news release, 19-year-old Marshawn Jackson is charged with 1st Degree Murder, Intimidation with a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm in the death of 15-year-old Tyliyah Whitis of Peoria, Illinois.
Whitis was found dead just after 6:15am on July 20th, 2021 after police received word of a single vehicle accident at the Hawthorne Hills Apartment Complex in the 2200 block of C Street Southwest.
Arriving officers discovered a vehicle with extensive damage and Whitis deceased in the driver’s seat. Whitis had what appeared to be a gunshot wound or wounds.
Jackson was in custody at the Linn County Jail when he was charged on Friday. If convicted on all charges, he faces life in prison.
