Firefighters battled a blaze involving a propane tank south of Swisher earlier this week.

According to the Jefferson Monroe Fire Department Facebook page, firefighters responded to a structure fire on Squirrel Ridge Road…located between Highway 965 and Cou Falls Road south of Cedar Ridge Winery…just before 3:45 Tuesday afternoon. Arriving crews found a detached garage and shed with heavy flames through the roof. Also, a 1,000 gallon propane tank continued to boil over and release fuel and flames 25 feet into the air.

A second alarm was called for water resources and manpower. The first-in crew mitigated the propane tank and protected the house until additional manpower arrived. There was extensive damage to the garage, but external vehicles and the residence were spared. No injuries were reported.

Fire crews from Swisher, Solon, North Liberty, Fairfax and Ely all responded. A damage estimate is not available.
