The Iowa Board of Nursing has refused to reinstate the license of a Linn-Mar School District school nurse convicted of having sex with a student.

The Gazette reports that Angela Belk of Marion was convicted of sexual exploitation by a school employee in 2019. She was the school nurse at Linn-Mar High School and also had a job at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids. The year before, police learned that Belk had allegedly told colleges at Luke’s that she had consensual sex with a 16 year old student. They reported the incident to authorities.

Beik maintains the sex was not consensual and that the student raped her. The newspaper says the board denied Beik’s application for reinstatement of her nursing license, indicating it was concerned she still lacks a good understanding of professional boundaries and fails to take responsibility for her actions.
