An Iowa City man who has been convicted of domestic abuse assault at least three times has been charged with the offense again.

Police say officers were dispatched to the South Governor Street apartment of 42-year-old Lavail Drain Sunday morning on reports of a fight in progress. Upon arrival, the woman victim stated that her husband, Drain, had come home drunk. The two reportedly had argued about keys to a vehicle before Drain allegedly threw a candle at the woman, striking her in the hand. He is also accused of striking his wife in the forehead.

Drain was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault, 3rd or subsequent offense. It’s a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.

A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
