A Homestead man faces charges that he led Johnson County deputies on a brief police chase early Sunday morning.

Officers say they observed 39-year-old Matthew Pundt of U Avenue commit multiple lane violations as he was driving his 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 on Highway 6 near Johnson-Iowa Road just before 1am. Pundt allegedly drove on the shoulder and nearly left the roadway multiple times.

Pundt reportedly ignored the officer’s top lights and siren and continued driving for about three miles. Once Pundt eventually pulled over, he reportedly showed signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking, performed poorly on field sobriety tests and registered a breath alcohol level of .180%.

Pundt is charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Eluding. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
