A North Liberty man who was served on warrants for Possession of Explosives and Harassment earlier this week while being held at the Johnson County Jail has had another charge filed against him.

North Liberty police arrested 37-year-old Randall Grandstaff in September after he allegedly was in possession of a stolen motorcycle and a handgun he was not allowed to have as a felon.  He was wanted on warrants in Iowa and Johnson counties, and was discovered being hidden in a North Liberty home on January 19th. A search of the bedroom Grandstaff was hiding reportedly found commercial grade fireworks, and before being apprehended Grandstaff allegedly threatened to blow officer’s heads off.

Now Grandstaff faces an additional charge regarding the possession of a handgun. Investigation revealed that he and another person went to Scheels on September 25th, with Grandstaff giving the other person money to purchase the firearm for him. That person purchased for Grandstaff on three different occasions between August 13th and September 25th.

Video surveillance led investigators to add a charge of Fraudulent Purchase of Firearms, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of five years.

If convicted on all current charges against him, Grandstaff faces up to 22 years in prison.
