Two Marion residents have been arrested after allegedly taking a construction trailer containing thousands of dollars in remodeling supplies.
Police say the incident occurred just after 4:30pm Sunday at a construction site in Tiffin. 26-year-old Alexies Meier of 27th Street and 38-year-old Thomas Carlson of Ben Dov Drive were seen hooking up to a trailer and leaving the site. The owner stated that the trailer contained trim, cabinets, counter tops and panels with an estimated value of 8-to-10 thousand dollars.
Police were made aware of the theft and spotted the trailer being towed by a UHaul Meier was driving eastbound on Highway 6. She reportedly made several unsafe lane changes in close proximity to other vehicles and failed to obey a red light. Meier ignored lights and siren and continued eastbound on Highway 6 into the 2400 block and turned northbound from the right lane. The vehicle finally came to a stop after pulling into a dead-end.
Upon contact, bolt cutters and some sort of clippers were observed in the vehicle. A check of Meier’s driving record showed her status as barred.
Both Meier and Carlson were charged with 2nd degree theft and possession of burglar’s tools, and could face up to seven years in prison if convicted. Meier was also charged with eluding and driving while barred, charges that would add another three years should she be convicted on those counts.
