Iowa City firefighters rescue dog from house blaze

Iowa City firefighters were able to rescue a dog from a burning home Sunday morning.

The Fire Department was called to a building fire at 1126 Pine Street at 5:22 am. Arriving crews encountered fire on the exterior of the home, with two occupants escaping the structure safely. They informed firefighters that their dog was still inside.

The fire spread to the home’s attic, and crews were able to bring the fire under control by 5:50 am. Firefighters located the dog, who was not injured, and returned him to his owners.

Iowa City Police, Johnson County Ambulance Service, MidAmerican Energy and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center assisted the Fire Department with the incident.

No damage estimate has been made available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
