An Oxford man who tried to run from authorities after being stopped for speeding got tased for his efforts and now faces a second OWI charge.
Police stopped 21-year-old Nicholas Collins of 330th Street Northwest around 2:45 am Sunday after allegedly speeding and committing lane violations on Interstate 80 westbound at the 232 mile marker. Collins reportedly was slow to get over after emergency lights were activated.
When Collins eventually pulled over, he allegedly exited his vehicle and attempted to run northbound. The officer chased him, and tased him after a short pursuit. The man reportedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, performed poorly on field testing, and showed a .203 blood-alcohol percentage on a Datamaster.
Collins was charged with OWI second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in jail if convicted.
