Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested two suspects in a storage unit burglary case.

39-year-old Timothy Messier and 38-year-old Joshua Kelley of Iowa City were booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 10pm Friday night on charges of 3rd Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Theft. Investigators say just after 2:45am on December 1st Messier and Kelley broke into a storage unit at Red Dot Storage on Alyssa Court and stole almost $10,000 in merchandise. The items were loaded into a van and the two drove away.

The entire incident was caught on security video. Deputies say they knew Messier and Kelley because of their extensive history of burglaries.

Kelley allegedly tried to flee to the back of the house when officers attempted to serve a search warrant at his and Jarvis’ residence on Western Road. He eventually came out when officers agreed to put away their tasers.

If convicted on both charges, Messier and Kelley each face a maximum of ten years in prison. Kelley faces an additional charge of Interference with Official Acts, a Simple Misdemeanor.
