Cedar Rapids man accused of ramming Johnson County Sheriff’s Office squad car during police chase near Swisher

A Cedar Rapids man faces charges that he rammed a police cruiser belonging to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office during a Friday night police chase near Swisher.

Arrest records indicate 32-year-old Tristan Hermanson of 18th Street SW drove his 2015 Chevy Silverado away from a traffic stop on Interstate 380 near the Swisher exit just after 11:45 Friday night. Investigators say Hermanson hit a deputy’s squad car with his truck during the pursuit, running it off the road. Once Hermanson was finally captured, he allegedly fought with officers, smelled of ingested alcohol and had open containers of alcohol inside his vehicle.

Hermanson is charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, Eluding While Participating in a Felony, Operating While Intoxicated -3rd or Subsequent Offense, Interference With Official Acts and 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 17 years in prison.
