An Iowa City man has been charged after allegedly taking rent money that his girlfriend set out at an Oxford residence.

Police say the incident occurred on New Year’s night in the 4300 block of Calkins Avenue Southwest. At about  7:20, 27-year-old Jordan Mack reportedly walked over to the victim’s residence and took a plastic grocery bag from in-between the storm and entry door on the front porch.

Arrest reports indicate that Mack’s girlfriend had put the $775 out about an hour and a half earlier; surveillance video shows Mack walking up to the residence and removing the plastic bag with the money.

A warrant was issued for Mack’s arrest on Tuesday; he was booked at the Johnson County Jail Thursday morning. He’s been charged with 3rd degree theft and faces a jail term of up to two years if he’s convicted.
