Cedar Rapids Police investigating two fatal shootings

Cedar Rapids Police are investigating two fatal shootings discovered within a 24 hour period.

At 2:40 pm Thursday, Cedar Rapids police responded to a shooting report and found a body lying in a street in the southeast part of the city. Police say that when officers arrived, they found the body of a dead male who appeared to have been shot. Police have identified the victim as 19-year-old Cordal Lewis, and say the shooting appeared to be a “targeted incident.”

Then Friday morning at approximately 7:25, a man was found shot to death in a Cedar Valley Park parking lot. Officials haven’t said if the shooting happened at the park, but indicated that the man appeared to have died from one or more gunshot wounds. The man was later identified as 22-year-old Kavon Iberheem Johnson.

It’s unclear it the incidents are related. Police believe both shootings appear to be targeted.
