An area transient who failed to show up for trial after hurling racial epithets at a police officer who was trying to get her to leave an Iowa City residence has been taken to the Johnson County Jail.

The original criminal complaints come from an incident this past October 15th. 48-year-old Alizabeth Brammeier was at a South Lucas Street residence late that afternoon and reportedly refused to leave after being requested to do so by the homeowner several times. Officers responded twice to the scene and instructed her to leave the property, and tried to make several arrangements for Brammeier to go to a hotel but again refused to vacate the premises.

As an officer was trying to remove the woman from the scene, she allegedly yelled repeated racial slurs and offensive epithets, including calling the officer “black boy” and “monkey” before repeatedly using the N-word towards him.

Court records show that Brammeier was scheduled for a bench trial December 14th but failed to show. A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was taken into custody Wednesday night. She faces a Trespass charge, as well as one count each of  Disorderly Conduct and Assault on a Peace Officer. If convicted on the charges, she faces up to 14 months in jail.
