The Johnson County Compensation Board has recommended a big salary increase for county elected officials.
The Gazette says that the board unanimously voted, with one abstention, to recommend an 18 percent increase in salaries beginning on July 1, the first day of Fiscal Year 2023.
The Compensation Board believes the raise is necessary to keep the county competitive with the rest of the state, and to retain employees.
The Board of Supervisors can approve the recommendation, decrease it, or lower their own salaries independent of the other elected officials.
If the 18 percent increase is approved across the board, the Supervisors would receive nearly $103,000 in yearly pay. The county attorney would see a raise to just over $189,000, and the Sheriff would remain the highest paid, at over $192,000 a year.
Last fiscal year, elected officials got a 2.75 percent raise, while non-bargaining employees got a 1 percent cost of living increase.
