An Iowa City woman faces several charges after she provided her sister’s name for identification.
Police stopped 35-year-old Saira Jacobs of Blackfoot Trail the evening of November 6th for driving without plates. She allegedly provided her sister’s name and date of birth instead of her own to officers. She was unable to provide proof of insurance liability and was issued a ticket under her sister’s name.
Then in the late afternoon of November 14th, Jacobs was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for failure to obey a traffic device. She reportedly had a black bag in her possession, and the vehicle allegedly had the strong odor of marijuana. Several open containers were observed in plain view of the officers.
A search of the vehicle located a glass pipe in Jacobs’ black bag which contained methamphetamine. When questioned, she admitted the bag was hers but the pipe was not. When asked to provide identification, she once again provided the false name.
The sister received a Failure to Appear notice on the November 6th citation and fines due to her name being used. She identified Jacobs as the actual person who was involved in the incident. A check of her records showed her driving status as barred in Iowa.
A warrant was issued for the woman’s arrest; she was taken into custody Friday morning. Jacobs faces a charge of driving while barred as a habitual offender, two counts of malicious prosecution, 5th degree criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, she faces a sentence of up to over four years.
