An Iowa City-area transient wanted on a warrant for failure to appear on a parole revocation hearing was arrested after an incident in a local hotel overnight.

Police were called to the Hampton Inn on Sturgis Corner Road at around 12:20 am Wednesday. They were told that 43-year-old Marcus Poindexter had been smoking in the lobby and was asked to leave. Before he did so, Poindexter allegedly put his cigarette out on the chair he was sitting on, causing damage to the chair.

Upon contact, Poindexter showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot watery eyes and unsteady balance. He reportedly admitted to drinking alcohol, and refused a post arrest PBT.

Poindexter faces charges of public intoxication and 5th degree criminal mischief, both simple misdemeanors punishable by jail sentences of up to 30 days each.  The parole violation means that he could face up to an additional year in jail on a Domestic Abuse Assault charge.
