Coralville Police say they arrested a man wanted for making threats after he was found with a saleable amount of drugs in his car.

Officers were alerted to a suspicious car in a parking lot on the 200 block of 21st Avenue just before 11pm Saturday. A check of the license plate showed the owner of the car, 32-year-old Freddie Mabane of Shamrock Place, was wanted on a 3rd Degree Harassment charge. Police say earlier this month Mabane tried to contact the alleged victim via Facebook Messenger, then tried to call her five times before she finally called him back. Mabane allegedly told her, “I’m gonna come over there and beat you and your boyfriend’s ass.”

As officers approached Mabane’s car they noticed the smell of marijuana. He allegedly handed over a baggie of marijuana, and a marijuana joint could be seen in the ashtray.

A probable cause search of Mabane’s vehicle allegedly turned up 22 metallic baggies with marijuana inside each one, a shopping bag containing marijuana, four digital scales, and a THC vape pen.

Police say Mabane admitted the scales were for weighing marijuana. The total weight of the marijuana found was 152 grams.

Mabane is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Controlled Substance Violation, a Drug Tax Stamp Violation, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 3rd Degree Harassment. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 12 years in prison.
