Armed felon arrested on weapons, drug charges near Swisher

An armed felon was arrested on weapons and drug charges near Swisher early Sunday morning.

Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to southbound Interstate 380 near the Swisher exit just after 3am for a verbal altercation. Arriving officers say they noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the suspect’s 2013 GMC Terrain SLE. A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a loaded handgun with a bullet chambered as well as two small baggies of marijuana.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Marquantay Brown of Burlington, has previous felony drug convictions out of Des Moines County. He’s charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Felon and Driving While Suspended. If convicted on the weapons charge, Brown faces a maximum of five years in prison.
