University of Iowa president Barbara Wilson has issued an update on the school’s spring semester plans relating to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wilson says school officials received guidance from the Board of Regents indicating the UI is expected to engage in a “face-to-face environment” this semester. She acknowledges the news is welcome to some but discouraging for others. Wilson encouraged both sides to put their differences aside and work together as Hawkeyes.

Wilson says she and Provost Kevin Kregel have reason for optimism, citing Johnson County’s high vaccination rate as well as the wide availability of booster and third-shot vaccines.

The statement went on to encourage students and staff to follow the following guidelines:
-Wear a mask in all indoor public spaces, regardless of your vaccination status.
-Get vaccinated, including a COVID-19 booster and a flu shot.
-Stay home if you’re sick and self-report any positive COVID-19 test.

Wilson says KN95 respirators and Level 1 medical-grade masks are available in all campus buildings.
