A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested after a brief police chase early Thursday morning.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy observed a 2014 Ford F150 Supercrew merging onto eastbound Interstate 80 from Ireland Avenue in Tiffin just before 12:45am. The truck was clocked at 71 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour construction zone, and a traffic stop was attempted.
Investigators say the truck initially failed to pull over despite the deputy activating his lights and siren, continuing on while still maintaining its speed of almost 20 miles per hour over the limit. It eventually pulled over on southbound Highway 218.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Ryan Beattie of K Avenue NE, allegedly did not have a valid driver’s license. He was charged with Eluding and numerous traffic violations. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
