Allegedly fleeing from police through a cemetery has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

Iowa City Police were called to a reported fight at the Eden Apartments on Muscatine Avenue just after 1pm Sunday. The alleged victim told responding officers that 28-year-old Eden Apartments resident Laron Leonard had punched her twice in the jaw. The jaw appeared to be dislocated, and the woman had dried blood on her lip.

The woman used to live with Leonard, and had an active no-contact order against him.

Police say they chased Leonard several hundred yards through the nearby Memory Gardens Cemetery before he was finally captured. He’s charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, Interference With Official Acts and a No-Contact Order Violation. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
