An Illinois man was killed in the three-vehicle accident at the Williamsburg exit off Interstate 80.
That’s according to the Iowa State Patrol. The official accident report indicates that just after 10am Wednesday 52-year-old David Shuman of Berlin Heights, Ohio was driving a semi southbound on M Avenue. At the same time, 80-year-old Robert Coulter of Milan, IL, had just exited I-80 westbound in his Toyota. A third vehicle, a GMC being driven by 48-year-old Jason Kruse of South Amana, was stopped at the stop sign waiting to turn left onto M Avenue.
The State Patrol says Coulter failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the semi. The GMC was hit by the debris.
Coulter was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers were not seriously injured.
The accident remains under investigation.
