Coralville Police say a drunk driving suspect began the new year by fighting with officers and threatening to shoot them.

A 2009 Chevy Impala being driven by 30-year-old Tammie Lyda of Houston, Texas was pulled over on westbound Interstate 80 near the Coral Ridge Avenue exit just after midnight Saturday. Callers to 9-1-1 reported a vehicle with Illinois plates driving recklessly near the 1st Avenue exit at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. Police say Lyda had difficulty maintaining her lane and kept her blinker on while attempting to drive straight.

Lyda allegedly showed signs of intoxication, and a half-full bottle of champagne and an empty bottle of cognac were found inside the car.

Police say Lyda fought with officers who were trying to take her into custody. Once at the Coralville police station, she allegedly kicked a wall, continued struggling with officers and threatened to, “Get a gun license and spray all y’all.”

Lyda’s breath alcohol content was measured at .147%. She’s charged with Operating While Intoxicated, 1st Degree Harassment, Interference With Official Acts, Improper Use of Lanes, and Open Container. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of over three years in prison.
