An overnight incident at a Coralville hotel has resulted in the arrest of two Iowa City residents.
Officers responded to a trespass call just after 3 am Thursday at the Super 8 on 1st Avenue. 26-year-old Breggette Knight of Scott Court and 27-year old Javonte Cunningham of Gilbert Court reportedly refused to vacate the hotel. Knight allegedly refused to listen to law enforcement officers telling her to leave, and was placed under arrest.
While being transported, Knight reportedly started hitting her head on the back of the squad car, and assaulted the uniformed officer when he was checking on her.
Knight faces a trespass charge, as well as Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. She could be sentenced to a year in jail if convicted.
Cunningham faces additional charges after allegedly providing multiple fictitious names to officers trying to identify him. Signs of intoxication were observed, and a PBT showed a blood-alcohol level of .104. Police also say that Cunningham was in possession of a loaded firearm.
He’s been charged with providing false ID information, public intoxication and possessing weapons while intoxicated. Cunningham faces up to 14 months in jail if convicted on all counts.
