Iowa City Police have arrested a gunshot victim after their investigation determined he fired multiple shots during in an incident at the Old Capitol parking lot earlier this month.
Police were called to the ramp before 1:30 am December 5th on reports of multiple shots fired. Responding officers came upon several subjects fleeing the scene. Remaining on scene was 18-year-old Demarcus Robertson Ray of Cedar Rapids, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Investigation into the incident determined that Robertson Ray fired multiple shots at four subjects, striking several vehicles in the process that caused significant property damage.
A warrant for the man’s arrest was issued the next day. Robertson Ray was taken into custody upon his release from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and during his initial appearance Wednesday, judge Deborah Minot cancelled the warrant and ordered him to not possess firearms. A public defender was appointed to represent him; further court dates have yet to be scheduled.
He’s been charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, and reckless use of a firearm causing property damage. Robertson Ray could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison if convicted on both counts.
