A Minneapolis woman was taken into custody on an OWI charge early Wednesday after being suspected of theft.

Officers were called to the Kum N Go on the 300 block of East Burlington Street just before 2:15 am on reports of a suspected theft. The reporting party said that the suspect, 21-year-old Sierra Burns, was attempting to leave in a grey Fusion sedan.

Police observed her leave the store lot and head south on Gilbert Street before turning on Court Street and into an alley. A stop was initiated, and Burns allegedly got out of her car and demanded to know why the officer was stopping her. Upon contact, she allegedly had the strong odor of ingested alcohol. After showing impairment on field testing, she blew a PBT of .124 with a subsequent Datamaster reading of .129. A search incident to arrest discovered a baggie of marijuana in the woman’s pocket.

Burns has been charged with OWI first offense, interference with official acts, and marijuana possession. If convicted on all counts, she could face up to 25 months in jail.
