IC robbery suspect enters “not guilty” plea, trial date set

A suspect in a strong-arm robbery at a downtown Iowa City convenience store has pleaded not guilty.

22-year-old Lewis Robinson III of 1st Avenue in Cedar Rapids entered the plea on Wednesday. On Thursday, Judge Lars Anderson set a trial date of April 12th.

Police say Robinson and an accomplice assaulted the alleged victim outside the East Burlington Street Kum & Go around 2:15am on October 3rd. The pair allegedly took the man’s gun before fleeing.

The incident was caught on surveillance video.

The alleged victim said he knew Robinson from previous interactions.  Robinson reportedly admitted to being at the scene.

Robinson is charged with 2nd Degree Robbery and Trafficking in Stolen Weapons. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 30 years in prison.

On Thursday, a case management conference was set for February 11th.
