A Riverside woman has been charged with child endangerment after she and the minor were injured in a vehicle accident while she was reportedly intoxicated.

The alleged incident occurred at approximately 9 pm on October 14th. 42-year-old Jasmine Swantz of West 1st Street was involved in a minor accident near the intersection of Sand Road and 560th Street. Her minor son was riding along with her when the incident occurred.

Deputies arriving on scene reportedly found unopened containers of alcohol  and could smell ingested alcohol on Swantz’s breath. When questioned, she allegedly admitted to drinking. A PBT showed Swantz over the legal limit to drive; both her and her son were taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.

A blood draw was requested at the hospital by authorities, but Swantz reportedly refused. The officer interviewing her at the UIHC reported that Swantz had bloodshot watery eyes and had the odor of ingested alcohol.

A warrant was issued for the woman’s arrest on October 18th; she was booked into the Johnson County Jail late Thursday night. Swantz has been charged with 1st offense OWI and Child Endangerment causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on both counts, she could face up to six years in prison.
