An Iowa City man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after allegedly burglarizing an apartment.
Police were dispatched to the 900 block of South Dubuque Street for a burglary in one of the apartments in the building. While in route, officers were also dispatched to a fight nearby on the 700 block of South Gilbert Street where 21-year-old Deon Brand of Brookwood Drive had been apprehended by witnesses.
The witnesses told police that they saw Brand trying to open other apartment doors in the building, while one said that they had Brand on surveillance video committing the alleged crime.
Brand has been charged with 2nd degree Burglary and could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
